Joanna Guo, Director of Care
Joanna Guo is a registered nurse and has been working as a nurse in both acute medicine and palliative care. Joanna completed both bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing from UBC and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Philosophy. She is hoping that her passion towards geriatric nursing and her firm belief in culturally appropriate person-centered care will be a great addition to the team!
Selina Zhou, Director of Finance
Selina Zhou has 15 years of extensive experience in financial management, auditing and taxation. Prior to joining Villa Cathay, she served in various senior financial or leadership roles in public accounting practice, publicly traded companies and large conglomerates. Selina was a Senior Auditor at KPMP LLP and provided assurance and tax services to non-profit organizations and large corporate clients in BC. Her expertise includes organizational structure, financial system improvement, treasury and regulatory compliance. Selina is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a U.S. Certified Public Accountant with the state of Illinois. She also holds a Bachelor of Economics degree.
Joey Cheung – Director of Donor and Community Engagement
Joey joined Villa Cathay in December 2018, bringing with her a broad range of experience from working with non-profits, small businesses, governments, and the community. She is focused on building meaningful relationships and successful partnerships for Villa Cathay, which will be instrumental to support the current and future fundraising initiatives and other long-term projects for Villa Cathay. Joey is a proud UBC alumni. You will see her in action in community events such the Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade, Steveston Salmon Festival, Canadian Cancer Society events, and others!
David Louie, Director of Facility and Services
Electrician by trade, David Louie comes to Villa Cathay Care Home with over 20 years of experience in construction. Between extensive work on residential as well as commercial sites, Dave has acquired the diverse skill set to keep a building operating smoothly. Despite having a background that includes work on large projects such as the Bentall 5 tower and Sky Train Millennium Line, no job is too small for Dave as he knows how meaningful a timely little fix could be for a resident or client. At Villa Cathay, Dave is able to combine his prowess for building maintenance and commitment to quality service in making sure everyone is happy coming home.
Frances To, Director of Support Services
Having joined Villa Cathay Care Home since January 2019, Frances brings with her over 30 years of experience in acute care, long term care, complex care, assisted living and independent living. She oversees the daily operation of food service, housekeeping and laundry service. Her goal is to ensure quality delicious meals served to residents daily in a comfortable home environment. Her interest has always been in food and will devote her passion to create more wonderful meals for Villa Cathay residents.
Rikki Wu, Recreation Manager
Rikki Wu holds a Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation from Douglas College and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Rikki plans, develops, implements, and evaluates recreation programs and social programs to meet residents’ physical, social, cognitive, spiritual, and emotional needs in Villa Cathay to help them maintain and improve their quality of life.
Carren Choi, Resident Care Manager
Carren is a certified Registered Nurse who first joined Villa Cathay in 1993. She later went on to hold various leadership positions in other facilities before ultimately returning to Villa Cathay in March of 2020 as Resident Care Manager. Apart from being a co-chair of the Quality Improvement Committee, Carren works with the Director of Care in facilitating everyday resident care, services and family relations. Carren also works with the Social Worker in resident’s admission and transition.
Jovy Wong, Clinical Dietitian
Jovy Wong graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics Degree with Honors. She received her internship training from Vancouver Island Health Authority and had training in community, clinical and food service administration in different health care settings in Kamloops and Vancouver Island. Jovy provides nutritional assessment, counseling, and care planning to all residents of Villa Cathay Care Home. Jovy works closely with residents and families toward nutritional wellness and health maintenance to achieve the resident’s desired quality of life outcome.
