Registered Care Aide

JOB SUMMARY:

Within the context of a resident/client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Care Aide works under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse or other designate and in cooperation with interdisciplinary team members to assist in the delivery of client care. Following established care plans provides personal care; bathes, grooms, dresses, assists with meals and oral hygiene and performs nursing care duties as applicable. Responds to call bells/alarms. Observes and monitors clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioral changes and reports/records significant observations. Utilizes mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport clients and provides assistance with lifting and/or transferring of clients following established lifting/safety techniques. Maintains a clean and safe environment for clients and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
• Grade 10 (including English 10). Graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant program or Health Care Assistant program.
• Current registration with the BC Care Registry is required.
• Basic First Aid Certificate
• Recent experience in residential care facility preferred

Knowledge & Abilities
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and proficiently both verbally and in writing
• Ability to deal with others effectively and respectfully.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment (such as Patient Care Information Systems)
• Recent experience in residential care facility preferred
• Ability to speak Chinese is an asset

Licensed Practical Nurse

JOB SUMMARY

Practices in accordance with the standards, scope and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) for a Licensed Practical Nurse as well as within a client and family centered care model and the vision, values and policies of the organization. Working independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team performs full scope of practical nursing functions as outlined by BCCNP for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty. This includes activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care, and providing support to clients and their families. Maintains and advances clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNP for clients within an complex care environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:
• Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses.
• One year recent related experience in gerontological nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Recent, related experience promoting client independence and/or supporting practice of life skills
• Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate and First Aid.
Knowledge & Abilities:
• Demonstrated medication administration skills as outlined in the LPN Scope of Practice.
• Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client and family care.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration/co-operation with others.
• Ability to organize and prioritize.
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
• Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Assets:

• The ability to speak Chinese is an asset

Registered Nurse

Job Summary

Practice in accordance with the standards, scope and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Registered Nurse BC (CRNBC), within a resident-centered care model and the organization’s philosophy, RN/RPN works independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team and provides clinical leadership to members of nursing team. This includes activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care, providing support to residents and their families, and gives directions and guidance to LPNs and RCAs. Maintains and advances clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of CRNBC.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with eligibility to practice nursing in the Province of BC. Current BCCNP registration.
• Two years’ experience in Geriatrics or Long-Term Care preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must be able to understand and follow directions contained in safety, health, instructional, and equipment manuals, and on label of equipment and supplies.
• Must demonstrate an ability to establish harmonious relations with Residents, their families and visitors and to work harmoniously and cooperatively with other staff,
• Ability to organize work.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate with residents and family in their preferred dialect/language an asset.
• Ability to deal with others effectively
• Physical ability to carry out duties of the position
• Ability to prioritize and organize work according to residents’ care needs and goals of the organization
• Ability to operate related equipment
• Basic computer skill and word processing program
• Demonstration of good work ethics and respectful workplace behaviors
