Are You Eligible?

Before you can apply for admission, check your eligibility to stay at a residential care home. You must be:

• A resident of British Columbia.
• A Canadian citizen, a landed immigrant or are on a Minister’s permit approved by the Ministry of Health Services.
• Of 19 years of age or older.
• Living in British Columbia for at least three months.
• Unable to function independently because of chronic, health-related problems or have health care conditions that require care.

How to Apply for Admission

1. Contact your Health Authority for the publicly-subsidized Residential Care Home Program. If you currently reside in Vancouver, Richmond, North Vancouver or West Vancouver, you can obtain more information from the Residential Care Provider Vancouver Coastal Health regarding public pay beds. For all other areas, please contact Fraser Health Authority for more information.
2. Your Health Authority will assign you a case manager, who will then make an assessment to confirm that you or your family member meets the criteria to apply for a care home.
3. We highly encourage all prospective seniors and their families to receive a tour of Villa Cathay prior to making the decision to move into Villa Cathay or any other nursing homes.
4. If you are considering to apply for Villa Cathay as your long-term care home, you will need to select us as one of your three preferred care homes.

What is the cost of care homes?

The cost of care homes for elderly seniors staying in a provincially funded senior nursing home are 80% of the individual’s income, with set minimum and maximum rates. The fees cover professional care, food & housing and basic hygiene product costs. As living at a senior residential care facility is your home, you may have to pay additional fees for services or items you would pay for if you are living on your own.

Please note that the Health Authority allocates all provincially funded beds. Villa Cathay has no control over the selection of its residents through this channel.

Villa Cathay also provides private nursing care at our residential care home for short term and long-term care. To apply for our private senior care home services, you may contact Villa Cathay Care Home directly. Villa Cathay maintains a wait list for all our private pay vacancies. We will admit seniors when a private pay vacancy is available.

Fees

Private pay residents are responsible for all residential care home costs associated with his/her nursing care while living at Villa Cathay.
