Executive Leadership

Szuchi Lee, Executive Director (Administrator)

Inspired by the Society’s founding principle of social justice for the underserved, Szuchi Lee joined Villa Cathay Care Home in 2011 and became its second Administrator.  Prior to Villa Cathay Care Home, Szuchi was an Education Coordinator in the Residential Care Practice Team at Vancouver Coastal Health, providing support to 56 residential care facilities within the region.   She is a Social Worker by professional training and has worked as a Case Manager for the geriatric population at Vancouver Coastal Health.  Szuchi is passionate about senior care and sees the delivery of quality residential care a way to affirm that our society values basic human rights and dignity.  She received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Washington in 2002.  She has been registered with the BC College of Social Workers since 2005 and earned her clinical designation in 2008.

Gracy Leung, Director of Care

As the Director of Care of Villa Cathay Care Home, Gracy Leung oversees the daily operation of the Nursing department and ensures the delivery of high quality care and services for the residents.  She joined Villa Cathay Care Home in 1993 and has had positions including Care Aide, Registered Nurse, Assistant Director of Care and finally Director of Care in 2008.  Gracy holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of British Columbia and also attained her professional credential in Gerontology as a CNA Certified (Gerontology) Nurse from the Canadian Nurses’ Association in 2003 and has successfully recertified since.

Selina Zhou, Director of Finance

Selina Zhou has 15 years of extensive experience in financial management, auditing and taxation.  Prior to joining Villa Cathay, she served in various senior financial or leadership roles in public accounting practice, publicly traded companies and large conglomerates.  Selina was a Senior Auditor at KPMP LLP and provided assurance and tax services to non-profit organizations and large corporate clients in BC.  Her expertise includes organizational structure, financial system improvement, treasury and regulatory compliance.  Selina is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a U.S. Certified Public Accountant with the state of Illinois.  She also holds a Bachelor of Economics degree.

Joey Cheung – Director of Donor and Community Engagement

Joey joined Villa Cathay in December 2018, bringing with her a broad range of experience from working with non-profits, small businesses, governments, and the community.  She is focused on building meaningful relationships and successful partnerships for Villa Cathay, which will be instrumental to support the current and future fundraising initiatives and other long-term projects for Villa Cathay.  Joey is a proud UBC alumni.  You will see her in action in community events such the Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade, Steveston Salmon Festival, Canadian Cancer Society events, and others!

Jovy Wong, Clinical Dietitian

Jovy Wong graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics Degree with Honors.  She received her internship training from Vancouver Island Health Authority and had training in community, clinical and food service administration in different health care settings in Kamloops and Vancouver Island.  Jovy provides nutritional assessment, counseling, and care planning to all residents of Villa Cathay Care Home.  Jovy works closely with residents and families toward nutritional wellness and health maintenance to achieve the resident’s desired quality of life outcome.

Ian Li – Clinical Project Manager

A registered nurse by trade, Ian is passionate about incorporating both qualitative and quantitative measures in providing culturally-sensitive, resident-centered care. As a Certified Six Sigma Clinical Project Manager for Villa Cathay, Ian combines his clinical and operational improvement experience to support the rejuvenation project this year. He loves to bike!

Catherine Yau, Social Worker

Catherine Yau joined Villa Cathay as its first Social Worker in 2006.  Before coming to Villa Cathay, she was the coordinator of the crisis line for CHIMO Crisis Services, Richmond, and there she set up an additional telephone service that outreached to isolated seniors in that community.  Catherine has a Bachelor of Social Work degree from UBC, and is registered with the BC College of Social Workers. Before she emigrated from Hong Kong in 1994, she was a government social worker in medical social work and in family services.

David Louie, Director of Facility and Services

Electrician by trade, David Louie comes to Villa Cathay Care Home with over 20 years of experience in construction. Between extensive work on residential as well as commercial sites, Dave has acquired the diverse skill set to keep a building operating smoothly.  Despite having a background that includes work on large projects such as the Bentall 5 tower and Sky Train Millennium Line, no job is too small for Dave as he knows how meaningful a timely little fix could be for a resident or client. At Villa Cathay, Dave is able to combine his prowess for building maintenance and commitment to quality service in making sure everyone is happy coming home.

Frances To, Director of Support Services

Having joined Villa Cathay Care Home since January 2019, Frances brings with her over 30 years of experience in acute care, long term care, complex care, assisted living and independent living. She oversees the daily operation of food service, housekeeping and laundry service. Her goal is to ensure quality delicious meals served to residents daily in a comfortable home environment. Her interest has always been in food and will devote her passion to create more wonderful meals for Villa Cathay residents.

Recreation Therapist

Rikki Wu, Recreation Therapist

Rikki Wu holds a Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation from Douglas College and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Rikki plans, develops, implements, and evaluates recreation programs and social programs to meet residents’ physical, social, cognitive, spiritual, and emotional needs in Villa Cathay to help them maintain and improve their quality of life.

Resident Care Manager

Carren Choi, Resident Care Manager

Carren is a certified Registered Nurse who first joined Villa Cathay in 1993. She later went on to hold various leadership positions in other facilities before ultimately returning to Villa Cathay in March of 2020 as Resident Care Manager. Apart from being a co-chair of the Quality Improvement Committee, Carren works with the Director of Care in facilitating everyday resident care, services and family relations. Carren also works with the Social Worker in  resident’s admission and transition.

Ming Leung

Ming Leung, Physiotherapist Consultant

Ming is a Physiotherapist who has a keen interest in senior wellness.  She graduated from University of British Columbia in Physiotherapy and from Simon Fraser University with a Masters of Science. She has worked in different Residential Care Homes and Fraser Health Authority, looking after Wellness and Fall Prevention of the residents, clients and staff as a staff physiotherapist and a consultant before coming to Villa Cathay.  When she is not working, she loves to hike, to bake and to garden.

Brian Tse, Executive Assistant

As a BBA graduate from the Beedie School of Business in 2018, Brian majored in HR and IT. Brian is excited to bring his HR skills to develop new policies in the soon-to-be largest care home in Vancouver. Throughout his experience at Villa Cathay, he’s learned that he enjoys Project Management and is considering on getting certified.

He enjoys snowboarding and going to the gym!

Carmen Lee, Donor Relations and Marketing Officer

Carmen is an energetic individual who graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Marketing and Communications. Since then she has been involved with numerous non-profit organizations, where she helped develop marketing plans, organize events and manage their social media platforms.  On a daily basis, you will find Carmen chatting with her 134 new grandparents that she has become a family with since she started working at Villa Cathay.
