In loving memory of our dear friend

Mun Kai Francisca Ling

January 9, 1957 – May 25, 2022

Francisca died at home surrounded by her loving family and received compassionate and professional care from her physician and a team of palliative nurses, including her niece Ada. She left this world gently.

Francisca was born in Hong Kong to Dr. Tsi Chung Francis Ling and Ang Show Elena Ling. She is the eldest daughter and one of five children, Paul Ling (Wendy) and their son James, Lucia Ling (Bob) and her sons Joseph and Danny (Ada) and their sons Avery and Lukas, Louis Ling (Winnie) and Angela King (Shaun).  Her relatives include Aunt Clara Young and her daughters Lydia and Josephine, Cousins Bernadette Leong and her brother Dr. Stanley Leong and his wife Elizabeth, their son Benjamin and daughter Teresa, Cousins David Tung and Anna Tung and her daughter Fiona Fong, Cousins David Ngan and his brother Philip Ngan.

Francisca emigrated along with her family from Hong Kong to Vancouver, Canada in 1973. She attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology and completed a Diploma program in Hotel management.  Beginning in the early 80’s, she managed the Topsy Clothing store on Robson for six years, and then transitioned to working the remaining years of her career in the IT field at Ada Computers, Patch Computers, Unisoft and Inproheat Industries Ltd. She worked in technical sales and support, project management, purchasing, marketing and web design. In the latter part of her career, Francisca also enjoyed working as the Health and Safety Manager at Inproheat.

Francisca was unfailing in her Catholic faith, and had a love and deep sense of responsibility to her family and close friends.

In 1997, Francisca married Alec Logan at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, in Vancouver. Throughout their marriage, they worked closely together and supported each other in each of their careers, volunteer work, recreation and passions. They were each other’s best friend.

Francisca had a passion for helping others, and this was expressed in the important work that she did in the areas of mental health and elder care. Her volunteer work included the British Columbia Schizophrenia Society, Coast Mental Health, Vancouver Coastal Health Advisory Committee and Villa Cathay Care Home. She was known as a first-rate researcher, advocate, organizer and strategist. She could also be relied on to provide her prodigious skills in realizing progress with each of the challenging projects she undertook. She came to be widely respected and appreciated for her tireless work ethic and the quality and wide range of her skills. She was known to be knowledgeable, practical, reliable and accountable. She set a high standard for herself and expected it of others.

Francisca was also a talented artist, musician and media communicator.  There seemed to be nothing that she couldn’t do or master, once she set her mind to it. She was one-of-a-kind, and irreplaceable. A uniquely special and beautiful person has left us much too soon to join her beloved father Francis in Heaven. We will all miss her profoundly.
